As described in the accompanying brochure the artist, “Santangela gives us a mother gently guiding her son in his first tentative steps toward the world beyond her sheltering embrace.  Her half-smile and sad eyes are proof enough that the child is no longer dependent on her for all his needs.”   It is thought that the inspiration for this plate was Leonardo’s 16^th century ‘The Child, the Virgin and Saint Anne’ in the Louvre in Paris.

The plate is handcrafted in genuine alabaster from the Tuscany region of Italy.  Included is a brochure discussing features of the plate.  The plate is numbered and includes a certificate of authenticity (in Italian) and the original shipping box.  The plate has been stored and never displayed and will be shipped in the original box.  Bradex 38-V90-2.3.  The back of the plate is metal and is slightly tarnished due the age, but easily readable.
