Guy Cambier is considered a French neo-classic painter. In this first plate in his series of Mother’s Day plates his soft colors and gentle portrayal of a mother and child evokes feelings of love and tenderness. The literature that accompanies the plate credits Cambier’s inspiration as the fifteenth-century Renaissance masters. Whether or not this was the dominant influence informing Cambier’s work, the result is a piece that will make a wonderful gift from a child to his or her mother or from a mother to her child.
The accompanying literature provides a brief snapshot of the artist and the early challenges he faced as a child. The plate is a D’Arceau-Limoges product made in the French town of Limoges, famous for its porcelains. In addition to the numbered plate is a Certificate of Authenticity and the literature mentioned above in both English and French. The plate was never displayed and has been in storage since issued.
