Memorial Plate for King Christian IX of Denmark. This plate features a view of Amalienborg Palace, the home of the royal family in Copenhagen, with the flag at half mast.�� A crowned monogram is formed from the back-to-back letters C9R (Christian IX Rex).� The inscription reads "MED GUD FOR �RE OG RET" (With God for Honor and Right), and the dates of his reign, from his coronation in 1863 until his death in 1906.� Known as the "Grandfather of Europe", his grandchildren included the King Christian X of Denmark, King Haakon VII of Norway, King George V of England, King Constantine I of Greece, and Czar Nicholas II of Russia. �All of these monarchs were first cousins because each had a parent born to Christian IX and Queen Louise.

This plate was designed by Jens Peter Dahl-Jensen, who worked for B&G for many years before forming his own company in 1925, and who is collectable in his own right. The scene is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in traditional Copenhagen blue under the glaze. Diameter 8 inches (20 cm). Pierced foot for hanging wire. Appropriately marked on the back, including the three tower trademark of Bing & Grondahl and Marked “B&G Kjobenhavn Made in Denmark”.�� Listed in the 2004 B&G and Royal Copenhagen plate book as plate #CM-22 with a book value of $130 to $170.�
